Nicholas Track Cycling photos (03.26.05) Nicholas preparing to enter the track. Thi s is a lap day for this race track. Riders ride at their own pace to test their equipment and practice riding at higher-than-road speeds on a closed circuit. Lights are not allowed on the track, so riders mask lights with blue tape. Nicholas is at center, wearing a silver helmet and red, white and black riding leathers.
Nicholas going down the straight track past the viewing stands. No spectators today because this is not a race day. Nicholas (left) and his friend, Miguel, the president of the UT Sport Bike Club (Nicholas joined the club this semester). Nicholas has just completed his first laps on the track.
Nicholas at center (silver helmet), during his second set of laps around the track. These were the last laps of the day. Margaret said a prayer of thanksgiving when he left the track safely. Last lap of the day.
David with Llewyn on UT honors day, April 2005. Llewyn was presented with the honor cords and medal she'll wear for graduation. Llewyn and Margaret after the ceremony at the Bass concert hall.
Llewyn at the Orange and White Ball, April 29. The ladies received orange roses to commemorate the evening. The ball is in honor of the graduating seniors. Llewyn and Steven.
Llewyn and Steven in front of the UT tower ice sculpture. Llewyn and Steven (they were in the same ballroom dance class - no wonder they
look like they know what they're doing.
Notice the number "1" in lights on the tower in the background, and the orange lights on the tower. Llewyn danced the hem out of her dress and had to change.

Nicholas' new cycling leathers. Required for riding on a cycling track. Nicholas decided to invest in a suit of his own. I like the padding it has built into it.
July 24. Margaret got the idea from her sister-in-law, Kathryn, years ago to greet the birthday person with a special breakfast in bed. This has become our tradition. Nicholas came in when we brought her food, to help her celebrate. He's very excited to be up so early in the morning. For her family activity on her birthday, Llewyn chose to go to the firing range. She'd never fired a gun before, and David had been wanting them both to have the experience (you know, in case the end of the world comes, and we need to hunt for food).
Llewyn firing the rifle. We brought a rifle and handgun with us to learn how to use. Llewyn really got the hang of it. Nicholas firing the handgun. We used the crossed-lines paper targets. The ones with the outline of a person (see the one to the left of ours) bothered Margaret too much.

Nicholas discovered that all those FPS computer games can develop some useful skills, if one must hunt to put food on the table.
October 31. Llewyn on her way to a Halloween party. She designed this costume, inspired by a Chinese-style dragon. The jewels on her face represent the scales of the dragon.
Notice the gold claws. Llewyn bartered with Margaret to get the garment parts of the costume made. Llewyn found supplies from a floral design shop for the tendrils on the dragon's head.
November 4. Margaret and David took a trip out to Lost Maples State Park, and on the way stopped at the Sister Creek Vineyard to tour the facility. That's (white) ice on a vat being used to process wine. David, looking pretty relaxed on his much needed afternoon adventure (no, he didn't sample any wine!).
Heading out to continue the day's adventure. Two twenty-something couples walked by just before this photo and said,"We're very glad to see you're wearing helmets." David thought it was a sad commentary on our ages when twenty-somethings use that type of condescending tone :). David, still more relaxed. So nice to see a big grin on his face. Notice the beautiful color behind him. The orange-reds are the maples.
Margaret walking along the 0.8 mile path. David enjoying a little solitude.

One of the lovely views we came here to see. On a Friday afternoon there really weren't many folks here, so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Afterwards we went to the Love Creek Restaurant in Medina and had a fabulous dinner, complete with apple pie made with their own apples. It was a really fun day.
This is Nicholas at the Track Day in College Station on December 10. I'm so glad David was able to be there with him. Nicholas' friends Chad and Alex took these photos.
This is the correct cornering technique for this type of track and turn. Nicholas' bike in the rest area.

February 4. Llewyn's first apartment. Hers is the top one on the left. And there's her car, the blue/green Eclipse parked closest to the building. This is great because she can walk to her lab on campus. Here's the view looking down her street facing north (her apartment faces east). The three-story condos at the end are very new, fancy, and right next to Central Market. The park, with its little pond, at Central Market is just behind these condos.
To get her mail Llewyn just walks downstairs, and along the walkway between the trees and the building. See my email for her mailing address, for anyone who wants to write her a real letter. Okay, so I asked her to come out and wave to all the family who might be seeing this. She made us promise not to post any of the interior photos until she approved them, so tune in again soon to see further pics from the adventures of New Apartment Girl.
apt inside
Here's what it looked like on the inside.
In May 2006 my brother Paul married Paula, whom he met at our house :).
The front of the church where Paul and Paula married. It was so awesome to be there with so many beloved family members present. The same area of the front, from the opposite point of view. Notice the church hall to the left, behind the trees. This is where the rehearsal dinner Friday evening was held.
Another view of the church hall, site of the rehearsal dinner. The reception after the wedding, however, was in La Grange, a twenty minute drive away. I can see why. This hall, though pleasant and convenient, would never hold three or four hundred people. Just a peek at the interior of the church. Isn't it beautiful? They tell me the rennovations were just completed last Easter, a year ago (thank Goodness they didn't have the same crew as the Best Western!). What a peaceful, holy, and romantic place for our little brother to marry his bride!

Our back eaves after the storm. The ice accumulations on our deck exceeded half an inch.
This ice whorl is produced by "Frostweed", an indegenous plant in our yard. The plant extrudes ice in this form from its stem. David out frolicking with the video camera. I had the still camera.
Our far back yard. Agarita branch after the storm.
Back in town, the ice storm was just as intense. Here's the Firebird after the ice storm (Nicholas has been borrowing it during this cold weather, insteaad of using his motorcycle - thank goodness!). Nicholas (on right) and his friend, and housemate, Chad.
Nicholas' housemate, Paul, and Nicholas, developing their acting talents. Nicholas found icicles longer than the ones out at our house in the hill country.
A new family member was born to Paul and Paula in July 2007.
Here she is, Paul's and Paula's little girl. These photos make her skin seem blotchy, but it wasn't in real life. Much smoother, but certainly very pink.
David really tried to get her with her eyes open, but she kept fluttering her eyelids closed when he snapped the photo. Welcome into our big family, little girl!
2008
Paul and Paula have a little boy, just before Christmas! Big sister and Daddy are pretty pleased with this expansion of the family. So are we!
Here we are after a celebration for a friend's Confirmation. Thanksgiving Day.
2009
In 2009 we went to Panama to visit our cousins. Jorge, Isabel and Sandra were very kind to us. Tito, Gianela and their girls had a party (it was Gianela's birthday! :) and it was a great opportunity to visit with their family (there's Daniela in front), as well as Sandra, Giancarlo, and Enrico.

A wonderful highlight of the trip was a visit with Tia Lia. Her grandsons are beautifully caring about their Abuela. They were really great to us, too! Love those guys.
2010
In early January Nick and Llewyn returned to Panama to celebrate with Gianco and Cristina on the occasion of their wedding. They were married in the Church of our lady of Carmel. Tia Ana's tomb is in the crypt of this church.

The bride and groom seemed to really enjoy the event and their guests. Llewyn and Nicholas had a great time.
This is the Christmas photo I wanted to send out. Llewyn and Nicholas objected :( This is the one they gave permission for :p. Couldn't get a serious one, but oh well.
